It’s the start of 1972 in bureaucratic, apartheid South Africa. Amy, home from university in Cape Town, preparing for the Durban visit of fellow student Evan, finds a tin of unopened letters in the guest room and an anonymous manuscript in the cellar. Amy cannot relate to her withdrawn father. She reads the manuscript about an escaped prisoner of war. The confrontation uncovers family secrets and sets them and others on a path to happier futures.
