In the year 1319, the narrator, a Templar knight named Rolland, receives devastating news: his master and mentor, Guillaume de Hauteville, has died. Guillaume was a revered Templar leader and former liberator of Ruad Al Attam. His faithful servant, Saaid, delivers a letter from Guillaume. Guillaume warns Rolland to be vigilant and protect the relics of the Templar Order at all costs. He includes part of a coded map, leading to the treasure hidden at Usson Castle, three days north of Toulouse.
