Ben studied Architecture at the Glasgow School of Art and began his career on a remote island in the Outer Hebrides. With long evenings and wild weather for company, he started writing fiction. After a decade working as an architect in London and Prague, Ben completed his first novel, The Last Canary, set largely on North Uist and inspired by its austere beauty and resilient people.
