The Princess and the Proxy

Set in a fictional European country, 13-year-old washerwoman’s daughter Remy has a life of drudgery ahead of her until she is chosen to be the companion of a Princess Victoria. But she is no ordinary companion – she is the princess’s whipping girl and will get punished (as her proxy) when the imperious Victoria misbehaves. After a difficult start they become friends, but adult life throws up complications and Remy must decide whether to put the royal court behind her and strike out on her own.
