Bookish recluse Laura encounters a homeless girl in Blackwell’s Bookshop, and finds her in her garden the next morning. Laura takes pity on 'Jo', allowing her to stay the night. But Jo refuses to leave, triggering traumatic memories from Laura's past. In Norfolk, Laura's father is dying and Laura must attend to the family she has neglected. When Laura returns to Oxford she finds only a malevolent shadow. Laura must confront her ‘crime’ to be free. Is 'Jo' the ghost of Laura’s lost baby?
