Rebecca is a normal, happy, 12-year-old girl living with her widowed mother. Her mother is killed in a car crash and she has to go live with her grandmother Naomi in the middle of nowhere rural Minnesota. She is not adjusting well to her new situation, so Naomi decides to let her in on the family secret. Magic is real. Rebecca meets all kinds of magical creatures and soon learns an ancient god wants her dead. She has to learn fast how to defend herself and makes some good friends along the way.
