Deep Play Tales of Lavinia, renowned as Polly Peachum & others in theGreat Lisbon Earthquake 1755

Deep Play celebrates Lavinia, the first lower-class heroine of English theatre. As Polly Peachum in "The Beggar's Opera", Lavinia won fame for her talent, charm and urban nous. In 1755 Lavinia, mistress, then wife, now widow of the Duke of Bolton, sails to imperial Portugal. Into the gaiety and splendour of regal Lisbon, the violence of the Great Lisbon Earthquake erupts around Lavinia and those closest to her. In this devastation, strong bonds are formed and Lavinia regains her "Pollyhood".
