Deep As a River In a Sunset Land

Deep as a River vividly depicts a caravan of runaway slaves in the 1850s, but instead of heading north, the group takes the Underground Railroad's southern route to Mexico. Along the way, they stage sham slave auctions in dusty towns to hide in plain sight and raise funds. They journey to a promised land through a harsh wilderness fraught with slave hunters, Indian attacks, bandits, mob violence, and internal strife. Imagine Homer's Odyssey set in the South Wild West during antebellum days.
