Kim spent early childhood in middle England but later lived four years working in Qatar; learning to sail, navigate the old souk and value Qatari hospitality. After returning to London and completing a successful marketing career, in 1995 he entered University as a mature student. In 2007, Kim sailed a yacht solo around the British Isles. From being an engaged reader and critical watcher of Shakespeare, in 2013, Kim co-directed two plays at the Qatar National Theatre.
