I love stories from people who live on the outside looking in. My working life was focussed on people with a learning disability, others who are autistic, and people in a hospice. Many of these experienced institutional life. I collected their stories. Some of these accounts are kept in archives, others were published and all were available to the person who told them. Many questions were raised. How do people have the resilience to survive? Why are some staff abusive? Why are some caring?
