When I was five, I was diagnosed with ADHD. I was bullied every day at school and at home—my dad was in jail, and my mom and sister were more likely to strike than hug. I felt lost and distraught. Then I was introduced to literature. Authors saw my soul before I even knew what that meant. From Chicken Soup for the Soul to Pride and Prejudice, everything I am started the moment I picked up a book and for the first time in my life, I didn't feel alone anymore.
