I keep coming back to my teenage years of golden age science fiction and my dad’s American detectives. He left school at thirteen, worked down the pit with his dad, but became the most well-read man I knew. I wanted to get back to those stories that kept me going till 3 a.m. My aim was to create an unputdownable yarn that evoked the experience of struggling for academic knowledge, and spiritual liberation - a metaphysical thriller of a nerd with a girl outside his reach (with wicked one liners).
