I grew up in a small town called Kroonstad, in the Free State province of South Africa. I attended a Catholic Primary school, Secondary and High school in the same town and then after working for a few years at the then South African Railways as a "Fireman" for coal locomotive trains, to put aside money for university, went to the University of the Western Cape in Bellville, near Cape Town, in the Western Cape province of South Africa.
