A wanderer now living in Italy, I have spent much of my life working in SE Asia. One night, I woke with the idea for the perfect opening line of my debut novel: The Orangutan in the Green Silk Scarf. I reached for a notebook and began. Four months later, the first draft was complete. I wanted this novel to live, but more than that, I wanted people to read it and get lost in the magic of Borneo and to glimpse the extraordinary world I had seen while living alone in a tiny house in the rainforest.
