I'm a woman of a certain age venturing into fiction and memoir after decades of newspaper journalism. I studied an MA in Creative Writing a few years ago. My first novel, which emerged during the process, is now consigned to the bin but all the things I learned went into novel number two. I am drawn to familiar settings: the West Country (I was born in Cornwall), the 1970s-80s and WW2 (I wasn't there but my parents were). My character-driven stories are often dark but told with humour.
