I was the first person from the Hackney council estate where I grew up (and the only one in my family) to go to uni. I worked on magazines where I was the only journalist to have attended a state school, before taking a job in an ad agency to fund my way through an MA in Creative Writing. I write cosy crime, a genre I believe is, at present, extraordinarily middle class, populated with middle class characters, written by middle class writers.
