Dr. Hennessey served in the US Army for over 28 years in successively responsible leadership positions, retiring as a Colonel. During that time, he received multiple awards for distinguished service. After retiring from the Army in 1993, Hennessey was appointed the University Chief of Staff at George Mason University. Until his retirement in 2013, he remained a teaching faculty member, teaching undergraduate and graduate-level courses in public management, policy, and governance.
