After earning a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Glasgow, I moved to Canada and became a professor at the University of Western Ontario. As a side-hustle, I wrote the history-of-science books ‘Vital Forces’ (Academic Press) and ‘Light Is a Messenger’ (Oxford University Press). Since I completed a diploma in creative writing from Toronto’s Humber College, my essays have appeared in literary and general-interest magazines in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom.
