I am a rocket scientist and the author of two textbooks on innovation and creativity. My research into 19th-century patents as case studies for modern problem-solving led me to explore the period’s science and engineering in depth, work I now share through a YouTube channel and a Substack newsletter on innovation. The Chetworth Papers grew out of that project, when the engineers behind those patents began to coalesce into the fictional figures at the heart of a novel.
