I grew up in streets where children were rarely seen, where silence echoed louder than laughter. Yet I carry them—all the unseen, forgotten children—inside me. As an Afrikaans digter, my words give them life, their footsteps, their whispers, their hopes. Though the neighborhood is empty, I am never alone. Through my poems, I let them exist, let them be remembered. I am their voice, their echo, their presence made real.
