I took up writing 4 years ago and have written 7 books and currently working on my 8th. I write because I enjoy it. My one set back is not being able to publish for free although there has been interest in my writings. However it does not deter me as I enjoy it so much. I am an older beginner but wished I had had the confidence when younger to take up writing professionaly.
