A handmade terracotta sun hangs among branches in a massive tree, an early memory. My bis nonno is 92 and speaks only Italian. At two years old, I don't speak much. We communicate by pushing seeds into soft, dark soil on his garden bench, fashioned from planks encircling the oak's trunk. I feel blessed, two suns watching over us. I live on a small farm on Martha’s Vineyard and at the seaside on the Cote d’Azur where I write, grow vegetables, and swim often.
