Corey, a creature from the earth's crust, tells Cricket Benchley, a thirteen-year-old from Primrose Hill, that she has been chosen as their earthling spokesperson to make adults aware of the dangers lurking below them. Cricket relays prophecies from Corey about sinkholes and earthquakes, and when they happen the world reels and everybody listens. Corey and Cricket travel the globe through the crust and mantle, striving to fight the nemesis, Heatstroke, and attempting to heal the planet.
