In a future in which most people are treated in utero with genes from hermaphroditic fish, and can will themselves to change genders, one couple wants to be "frozen" as male and female. Two therapists spend time with the couple, trying to determine for the state if these two people are sane. The spouse of one of the therapists is directing a production of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night at a major theatre. The director writes a play for the theatre's black box riffing on characters in Twelfth Night.
