Lake District, 1820. Undertaker’s daughter Rotha Satterthwaite (17) loathes her stepmother, has a broken relationship with her father and longs to solve the mystery of her mother’s death. As a child Rotha's mother to merge her mind with those of animals and when she died, Rotha lost this skill. After people start drowning with mysterious marks on their bodies, rumours abound of a huge serpent in the lake. Rotha must use her wits and rediscover her skill to discover where true evil lies.
