Late 1970s London. Elijah, a layabout cinema worker by day, studies carpentry on the side. By chance he meets Mrs X., a director of Italian horror films, and her film scholar husband Mr X. Losing his job and finding himself homeless, he is taken in by the couple and put to work on creating the set for the main set piece of Mrs X.'s new film. Before long a sexual dynamic develops between the three. The mysterious death of a gardener on the grounds brings a meddling inspector into the fold.
