My name is William Thoma from Boston, and I must clear my name before it is too late. The years I have left are dwindling, and my unfortunate alliance as a younger man with an ill-fated brig gnaws at my conscience still. Mercifully, the past decades have eroded the worst part of my memory: the misery I endured during my affiliation with the wretched parcel of land locals referred to as Robben Island, only six miles north of Cape Town.
