Franz learns, on his adopted son Friedrich’s 25th birthday that Friedrich is actually his half brother. His father Klaus once hid a Jewish family with his boyhood friend, Elsa’s, help. After the war, grief drew Klaus and Elsa together, and Friedrich was born. Franz, an SS officer disgusted by Nazi crimes, surrendered and subsequently worked for British intelligence. Returning home, he married Elsa. Years later in Greece, he sought the officer who saved him, but found that he had died.
