Girl At Sea
by Amanda Hopkins

Sierra Leone, 2000. Two children are admitted to a newly established rehabilitation centre for former child soldiers: Sao Sillah, the first ever girl, who faces animosity and resentment. And Shaka, a local homeless boy who pretends to be a child combatant after suffering horrific burn injuries whilst stealing oil from the pipes of a foreign refinery. The arrival of the two children exposes deep fissures whilst highlighting the corrosive consequences of war on the most fragile in society.
