It’s five years since schoolgirl May O’Neill disappeared, but her father won’t give up hope. He marks her birthdays like always, with gifts and a cake. This year he wakes to find the cake in ruins. That’s not all: The Book of Etiquette turns up in his briefcase – an old book May borrowed from the library and which has been missing ever since. Is he the victim of a sadistic joke? Is this a challenge? Or does someone think he needs a book on etiquette because it’s time he learned some manners?
