It’s 2002. Jack Dale is a writer scratching a living writing travel articles for weekly supplements. Gay, HIV-positive and introverted, he’s in Paris researching a piece on the 19th-century opera composer, Vincenzo Bellini, who'd died there in 1835 under what seem suspicious circumstances. This is an obsession for Jack, but new friends draw him into a world of intrigue he hasn't counted on. Meanwhile, 170 years earlier, Bellini himself begins writing a journal and soon the two stories intertwine
