When a grief-marked pilot detects signals rising from a subduction zone, discovery becomes temptation—and control begins to fail. Phantom islands and an organized nonhuman intelligence force humanity to confront a shared ocean it does not rule. Blending hard science with existential horror, the novel asks what ambition must be surrendered to survive.
