Pastry
by Matt Valence

Alan's mother walks away. His father turns to drink. His sister takes drugs. His grandfather is deviant. His feelings for Moira Garibaldi, a girl in the Sixth Form at school, are compromised when he is seduced by his aunt. And still, he is brilliant with pastry. As Alan searches for the love of his mother and for his best way forwards, he develops a philosophical view of himself and the world. His task is to sift through his experiences and to come to some conclusions of his own.
