Pregnancy waylays the dreams of Elly and Nick to escape the expectations of their outback Australian town. Nick fears suffocation of his dreams and flees. Abandoned, Elly struggles against the morality and sexism of the times to keep her baby. Each of their lives are challenged and changed by the politics, lifestyles and feminism of 1970s Australia. Finally Nick seeks out Elly to face his responsibilities. Can Elly forgive him and Nick find redemption? Can love be rekindled?
