The Shades
by Sam Hill

Darkness and Distance is the natural sequel to Frankenstein, where Mary Shelley finally meets her monster. As she makes her way across the continent for the third time in three years, Mary is certain she's being pursued by a malevolent force - could it be bailiffs, spies or somebody out to avenge her reckless behaviour? The novel takes its title from the final line of Shelley’s classic: ‘He was soon borne away by the waves and lost in darkness and distance.'
