The First Death of Calliope
by Bailey DesRosier

What happens when the American dream dies? At six years old, Emmy foresees the death of her father. But following the unforeseen death of her sister, she begins to question the pinnacles of her faith, and the country that her parents immigrated to. As Emmy revisits scenes of her life, she gets lost further in the fantasy world she’s created to deal with her grief. She continues to face theological battles within: if God loved her, why did he take her father, and why did he take her sister too?
