Inspired by letters of an ex-prostitute written in the early 1900s, A Working Girl's Stories, recounts the uplifting journey of a Jewish teenage immigrant: her stint as a shopgirl at a major Chicago department store; being recruited into a pimp's stable and becoming his favorite; contracting Syphilis and a cure that results in an addiction to morphine that is overcome; becoming an unlikely entrepreneur, and ultimately, a social worker who helps homeless young girls find a place in society.
